His personal journey of self discovery began in 1988 - when he began studying Naturopathy at NatureCare College of Natural Therapies. This is where he discovered and began nurturing, his natural talent for Massage/Bodywork. He continued to work in this field for over 14 years – for an Osteopath, in his private practice and for Sydney's 5 Star Hotels.
Becoming a father in the mid 90’s, he came to the realisation that he needed more support from men. As he, like so many men, had placed all his emotional eggs in one basket - that of his partner. Which was proving to be detrimental to himself, to her and the relationship.
Thus began his journey with Men’s groups and workshops which continues today. After participating in many workshops over many years, he began the process of learning how to facilitate groups professionally with Relationships Australia (RA), as a group worker in their Adult Education program in 1996.
This is where Steve’s career in leading Men began, starting with RA's Men’s Domestic Violence program, which he facilitated for nearly two years, and continuing with facilitating Men’s groups for: Probation & Parole, Interrelate and in private practice at Burwood.
In 2002 he began as the group worker for UnitingCare Burnside, where he facilitated parenting groups in western Sydney. Becaming very well known in Western Sydney as an accomplished Men’s worker and group facilitator. He was in demand as a mentor for workers learning to facilitate parenting and Fathers groups, by a number of leading agencies & NGO's.
He attained a Cert 1V in Workplace Training & Assessment in 2003. As part of the Family Work team (FWP) he trained professionals in the Community Sector in: VETAB Accredited Group Work Skills, advanced level group skills, Working with Men and Working with Family Violence and a variety of other training packages, some of which he created and presented.
As well as quite extensive formal training, work experience and clinical supervision, Steve has been very fortunate to have been mentored by some very talented and gifted teachers. Giving him a thorough grounding and understanding of ‘what works’, in dissolving those aspects of ourselves that hinder our creation of the life and relationships we really crave.
Along side the more contemporary aspects of Steve’s career as a powerful agent of change, what distinguishes him is his deeply spiritual nature. He met and began studying with his first spiritual teacher in 1988, where he was initiated into Kriya Yoga.
The development of this spiritual aspect of his being, coupled with the practices and experiences of this time, opened his awareness to experience for himself more of the non-physical and non-rational aspects of the human experience.
He has been trained in the following modalities:
~ Massage: Swedish, Remedial & Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Esalen
~ Wholistic Counselling
~ Cognitive Behavioral Theory
~ Emotional release techniques
~ Sandplay and Transpersonal Therapies
~ Group facilitation
~ Adult Education, Training and Assessment
~ Tantric and Sacred Intimacy
